Ugh... baby food

I've been excitedly making baby food at home. I, of course, buy jars of baby food too. I'm not a freak! But, whenever I have time I buy fresh organic produce and make some fruit or veggie purees. Since baby V loves eating, I recently upgraded to chicken and turkey. The results? Two words. Gag inducing. For some reason, I can puree fruits and veg with the best of them. Chicken? turkey? Not pleasant.

Today, I got motivated and made a big dish of turkey, potatoes, and squash, and then tried to puree it. At the time, it seemed a good idea. But, my little food processor/freezing system couldn't handle it. I had to enlist B's help to bag some of it in freezer ziplocks. Sigh!

I couldn't get the texture right and baby V didn't like it. She gagged ... and to be honest, I was right there with her. It tasted fine, just needed salt. But, the texture... ugh! It was like chowder, but without the cream. I guess I'll cut it with milk or some veggie puree. Hopefully that will improve it. Maybe V is trying to tell me she's a vegetarian? :)

You are such a great mommy. Making baby food is a lot of work! Don't be sad, it takes practice to get it right... I am one to speak... I still can't cook grown up food. Love you, Tia Reneyda

Thanks, Tia!

The next day we cut it with some carrot-zucchini puree and water. She liked it much better. It tastes awful to me. I think it's the sodium-free aspect of it. But, I'm a salt fiend.
